Jasmine Tea Introduction

Loose leaf tea introduction
Jasmine (also known as Jasminum) is a green plant species that has a total of 200 varieties. However, only one of these species is native to Europe, as every other jasmine genus comes from Asia. Jasmine is used in culinary dishes, desserts, teas, syrups, cocktails, and other beverages.

Jasmine can be traced back to 2nd century BC, but it was only when the rulers of the Chinese Sung Dynasty have discovered the fragrance of this flower to be very captivating, that jasmine became really popular as a plant and used to make tea. At first, it was used as an addition to green tea because of its amazing scent. Quickly after that, it started spreading all over Asia and was finally introduced to Europe in the17th century. Jasmine is also the national flower of many countries including Thailand, Syria, Philippines, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Hawaii.

The process of harvesting jasmine flowers is quite special. The gentle white or yellow flowers are collected in the nighttime, right before they open and are left in a dark, cool place overnight. That’s when the magic happens and the flowers open up. In the morning, they are placed into trays and left out to dry naturally in the sun. The result is an incredibly potent tea that was produced with care.

Whether you drink jasmine as a standalone tea or as a part of a blend, (usually with green or oolong tea), you will definitely recognize the jasmine flavor and fragrance. Freshness and natural, sweet taste are what makes this tea so appealing to so many people. The color of the tea is very mild and yellowish, but that’s not the case with the smell. It is very aromatic and strong and you will enjoy this tea just by smelling it. It is no wonder that jasmine is extremely popular in aromatherapy and the production of fragrances. Inhaling jasmine refreshes you and instantly clears away all the tenseness and stiffness from your body and mind.

In Asia, drinking jasmine tea is considered to be very spiritual and is often used when meditating. Is has special symbolic meanings that differ from region to region. Because it opens up its flowers at night, jasmine is considered to be a flower for young lovers who would often meet up in gardens at night, bathed by moonlight. In many cultures it represents sensuality, love, and connection. That’s what makes it a perfect gift for a loved one. Yellow jasmine is a symbol of friendship, loyalty, peace, joy, and intellect. That is why in China you would offer your guests jasmine tea, making them feel welcome and expressing your appreciation.

If you have never tasted jasmine tea, it is definitely the time to do so. You will be become a fan by drinking only one cup. If you are already familiar with this truly wonderful tea, then you already know how charming and special it is.

Jasmine teas are freaking sweet! Review by Sophia Abigali

I’ve been drinking jasmine tea my entire life, and it has always been one of my favorites. The organic jasmine bud tea that AiryTea has, though, is by far some of the best I’ve ever had! I wish I could go back to buying it at my local store, which would probably be more convenient, but the price and quality of this variety is honestly well worth the wait for shipping.

I steep mine for about 3 minutes and it turns out perfectly every time. I have yet to make a bad cup! If you do order it, I would strongly recommend buying the organic variety AiryTea offers—the upcharge isn’t that much and it’s definitely worth it. Even with the upcharge, it’s still cheaper than buying the same quality of tea anywhere else. (Posted on 9/3/2015)
